The FABruary style challenge!

Imogen Lamport of Inside Out Style came up with a great idea: the FABruary style challenge . It's a list of ideas to incorporate in one's outfit for each day of February. Somehow blogger doesn't want to add the list of challenges, so hop here for it.  I'll try to participate as much as I can, as it's an interesting idea to challenge myself. Some of what's in the list I have done (Wear a dress), some I haven't Umultiple necklaces), some I won't be able because it involves stuff which I don't have in my wardrobe, or is just not something I like. Overall, I think it'll be fun! Want to join us?

Sweater - UC Benettone Skirt - Oltre Jeans Tights - Tezenis Boots - Nero Giardini Earrings - Conbipel I am so disappointed the picture doesn't show the lovely neckline of this sweater - I'll take a better one next time I wear it. The color is dark wine , or something like that, and it is really warm. I bought it on a whim duting a browsing session at UC Benetton, toghether with another one, last November. I have to say, happy I got them! I like wearing this new skirt because it goes well with my Nero Giardini boots. They look good and are extremely confortable And a funny thing - I got a compliment from a colleague - on my tights! That is a new one!

Four ways to care for your hands. Something I should do more of... A very interesting discussion on short hair . I liked reading it, since I just cut my hair very short. Beauty advice for cold weather.  How about considering the happiness factor when selecting  an outfit? Just for your eyes... Beautiful pictures if Paris under the snow. Here , here and here ! Now I want to go... And more Paris pictures . Have a great Sunday!

Weekend...

Image
FInally, the weekend. We kicked it off yesterday by having a nice dinner with good wine and going to see Django after dinner. I was a little bit disappointed by the movie Inglorious Bastards is a way better movie, in my opinion), but I was happy to see it. Today it was the farmers' market. Fresh fruit makes me so happy! Got some yellow peppers, eggplant, radishes and carrots too! Tonight we'll go to a pub to listen to some live music. It's a friend's birthday, and he decided to celebrate there (great choice for me!) Today's outfit:   Sweater - Conbipel Jeans - Express Boots - Geox This is a casual outfit great for walking. I bought these jeans at Express in NYC this summer. I miss shopping in NY so much... I guess tonight I'll change to a skirt and boots, though. And tomorrow... we'll spend the afternoon at a SPA! Can't wait, it was really needed after a very tiring week. Happy weekend!

Today's outfit

Dress - Sandro Ferrone Turtleneck - Tezenis Boots - Campanile Necklace - Random street stand First of all, excuse my cut-off head. I was rushing out of the door this morning and hadn't time to check the picture. This is one of my two "mod" dresses. I saw it in the store and, although it was my size, it looked huge. I decided to try it because the shape puzzled me, and found it actually fits and I actualli loved it. The strange arm position is to show its shape: it is streight, slightly tapered at the bottom and larger in the middle. The colors are sober but not boring, so I took it home with me. I like how elegant it looks with this old necklace, without being fussy. It was an excellent buy. I am participating with this outfit to " What I Wore to Work Link up " held at Mix and Match Fashion. Hop over there to see other lovely outfits worn to work!

An outfit - Stripes!

Image
Sweater Dress - Sandro Ferrone  Turtleneck (under the dress) - Tezenis Tights - Tezenis Boots - ? "Pearl" studs - Conbipel This is the other of my two sweater dresses (the other one being this ). For some reason, I gravitate towards other silhouettes - mainly the 60's sheat for winter. I was buying one of said 60s inspired sheats, and the lady at the store invited me to try this one too. It was love at first sight, and in one of my favourite color combinations: white, black and gray. So, I can add whatever color I want with my tights, and this time I went for burgundy ones. It is also one of my few striped pièces. I don't know why, sometimes I just tend to exclude patterns without a real reason, expecially for winter clothing...

Sunday reads!

Image
Hi there! It has been so long since my last Sunday Reads... But this one is a good one, I promise! The beauty benefits of apple cider vinegar. I am not accustomed to have apple vinegar at home (wine is the default choice here), but I definitely want to try it! I might even like it on my salad... Makeup tricks to look alive when you are not! I have tried the last two, and I'll buy a big white eye pencil as soon as I can find it! Some thoughts on red lipstick. I still have to find the courage to wear it during the day... A beautiful picture collection. Want to make these! Well... as soon as I have finished all the sweets still laying around in my apartment since Christmas! And this too... one of my next projects. I say amen to this . Reading so many fashion blogs, I often feel the urge to wear something different every day. Husband is, at best, puzzled by this, he really cannot understand why I can't wear the same thing to work two days in a row... Finally... six

Sweater dress - UC Benetton Black tee - Intimissimi Gray tights - Tezenis Boots - Geox Studs - Conbipel (I was not as angry as it seems from this picture, I promise!) I really like this dress, both the colors and the fit. It was one of husband's Christmas gift, and I really loved what he chose, although it's a bit shorter than I would normally wear. I decided to wear it with these Chelsea boots from Geox, but looking at the picture I am not really satisfied with the result. My legs look stumpier than they really are. But I was comfortable, at least. I guess next time I'll try taller boots. When asked what he thought of these boots with this dress, husband replied - who cares? At work you wear work shoes anyway, right? Fair enough. And a very pragmatic answer!

An experience to forget!

Image
As I mentioned before, I am a big fan of Groupon, Groupalia and such. I have bought and used their coupons for hotels, shopping (my yogurt maker comes from Groupalia!) and services - such as mani/pedi combos, a SPA afternoon for two (THAT was amazing!) or hair color and treatment (pretty good too). In november I bought a coupon for a series of services at a beauty salon in a nearby city. It included waxing, massage, face treatment, mani and pedi - a pretty good deal. This is what the experience was supposed to be: Image source And, trust me, it was NOT! I went for the wax before Christmas. It was ok, I guess, but the owner of the salon didn't give a nice impression to me. She was late (I was the first appointment of the day) complaining about everything while she was working on me, including the girls who are working for her (!). Two days ago I went for my second appointment, a massage.  The girl who did the massage was pretty good. The massage per se was awesom

Monday outfit

Hi there! How was your weekend? Mine was lovely, filled with rest and relax... I should do this more often! Here is yesterday's outfit: Sweater - Gemelli Skirt - Oltre jeans Tights - ? Boots - Nero Giardini Studs - Conbipel. Meet two new entries. On Sunday morning, my quest for a jean skirt which was NOT a mini-skirt ended. We went to the nearby mall to pick up a couple of thinks, and I saw her in a window!  I love that this is not really a jeans skirt, but rather a pencil skirt made of jeans fabric - if I make any sense. Husband approved my choice for this exact reason: it is casual but not too much. It has a back zipper and back studded pockets (should take a picture some day...) This off-white sweater was a recent buy too - saw it on Sat and tried it on. I don't own any other white sweater, this is the lighter color I have in my wardrobe, and I am pretty happy to have added it. I chose this tights, so old that I don't remember where I bought i

...will be spent going to the farmers' market and to the fish market, to prepare a nice dinner of oysters and fish and Champagne. We will relax, take things slowly, and see some friends for dinner on Sunday. Have  nice one!

Road trips

Image
When coming back home from Rome, this afternoon, I was listening to the radio. The DJ started affirming some song was very well suited for road trips - and asked people who were listening which road trips they remembered as the most fun. So I started thinking about my road trips... I remember very well a trip I took with my family when I was about 7. It was my parents, me, and my two younger sisters, one of which was a toddler - and dad was carrying her everywhere in something that resembled a backpack, but had holes for her legs. We drove to Vienna and Venice. I remember how everything seemed new and unusual. I was so curious that I tried every kind of food that was presented to me - both me and my sister insisted on having mustard on our hot dogs, to have mom remove it after we found out the taste was still too strong for us. Vienna's buildings seemed so tall and unique, and I was fascinated by the Shoenbrunn Palace... Image source And Venice was just like a fairy

Wednesday outfit.

Image
I have been re-reading some outfit posts, and found that my most inspired moment, clothes-wise, was during winter 2011. I like those outfits a lot. Some things I still have, some have been retired, some I am not fond as much as I was at the time. I even miss a couple of skirts and dresses.. I decided to try to start again documenting my outfit. It is a nice motivation to put some effort in getting dressed, plus, it's fun! I am starting with an outfit I wore yesterday. Wore it to work and to yoga class: Sweater - Express Skirt - Sandro Ferrone Tights - Tezenis Boots - ? Necklace - Steph's mom Ear studs - Target I cut my hair yesterday, and still have some problems styling it... I am not used to have it this short anymore! I like that this outfit's components are at least one year old, except than for the tights. I have had this sweater for at least 6 years (!) The tights are an improptu buy. I went to Tezenis to buy gray and black tights, then pick

Time to...

Image
It's time to put to rest my dark Killah jeans. This is one of the outfits where I wore them: They came with me to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Turin, Nuremberg, Paris, Tuscany, Urbino, and just a few days ago to the Netherlands. They were a really nice dark blue and a really soft fabric. I bought them on sale (-50%) in Jan 2010 (!). So, after that much use, with husband's encouragement, I decided to put them to rest. They are faded, the fabric has stretched out, and they don't flatter me as well as they did when they were new. I promised husband if he helped me to find a new pair of similar jeans, I'd put them to rest. And in a department store in Haarlem, he found their replacement! So, this is a requiem for them. They have served me very well. It was really money well spent, and I am a bit sad to let them go.... So I'll probably wear them again around the house while cleaning!

Travel pictures: Netherlands

Image
Here are some pictures we took while in the Netherlands. We spent most of the time in Haarlem, a big and ancient town very close to Amsterdam, with my sister in law and her family. She is married to a Dutch man and they live there with their daughter and son. We booked a room in a bed and breakfast in one of the main squares in the city center, which was a really great position, close to the St. Bavo church, a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. Here is a view of the curch from the square: And this is a view of the square from the place where we had breakfast every morning: And from another angle - I took a lot of pictures because it was so full of beautiful and ancient buildings: Some pictures of the town of Haarlem - we took quite some walks, I wanted to see as much as possible! And, of course, we spent a day in Amsterdam - which was about 20 minutes by train. We enjoyed their food and the way of life, very relaxed and ca

Happy new year, and a resolution.

Happy new year everybody! I came back last night from the Netherlands, where we had a really great time. Above is a picture of the Christmas tree in the main square in Haarlem. It was beautiful, we spent New Years Eve celebrating with husband's sister and  her family. I loved seeing how people live in Holland. I am a bit sad to be back, but also excited for the new year and the possibilities it brings. I have only one resolution this year: to take everything easy. It is so difficoult for me, but I know when I manage to do it, things go much better and smoother. Then, everything else gets better from a more relaxed place. Now I have our apartment to clean... check back tomorrow for more travel pictures!
